General Information

The Division of Academic Affairs is responsible for approval and review. The approval process includes reviewing and analyzing proposals from institutions of higher education who are seeking the statutorily-required approval for operating and degree granting authority from the IBHE. The Division is also responsible for reviewing existing authorizations and degree programs previously approved by the IBHE.

• Illinois Public Universities
  
  
• Illinois Public Community Colleges have provisions that are comparable to the public universities but are administered by the Illinois Community College Board. Requests for new programs at the community colleges are presented to the IBHE for approval. See Board Approvals for recent actions.
  
  
• Illinois Independent Institutions of Higher Education (also known as in-state privates, both for-profit and not-for-profit)
  
  
• Out-of-State Institutions includes public and Independent institutions of higher education (also known as out-of-state privates)
